Edenthorn Interview
Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD. What type of artist are you?
E. Edenthorn are a rock band from North East, UK.
PD. Tell us the brief history of yourself.
E. We formed in 2013 and we soon realised that we loved making music together. We find it so easy to write and create together… Sometimes it is too easy however, and we end up having too many new songs! As well as creating and writing in the practice room, we love playing live. It is an amazing feeling when the audience are on your side and are singing your songs back to you. As long as people keep loving our music, that is all that matters to us!
PD. Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
E. As a band we are influenced by Foo Fighters, Biffy Clyro, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, U2, Pink Floyd etc…
PD. Who writes your songs, what are they about?
E. Kyle writes the lyrics and melody lines in all of our songs. Most of the lyrics are inspired by personal experiences or experiences of others around. The aim is to write lyrics that are relatable for the listener so that they feel a connection to the song and lyrics. Musically, Dylan usually comes up with a riff and then Faiba and Mark jam along until we have the basic blocks of the song, we then keep working on the song until we have the sections and changes that we want. Sometimes however, Dylan will come to the practice room with a whole song written (drums, guitars and bass) it all depends really.
PD. Tell us about the recording of the debut album Exist.
E. The recording process has been great fun, we’ve tried to keep the recordings as close to what we play live so the record has lots of energy and sounds very raw in parts.
PD. What was your highlight in the making of the album?
E. Recording, mixing, mastering and releasing it all ourselves.
PD. How are you promoting the release of the new album?
E. In April 2018 we will be releasing our brand new second album “EXIST.” From now until then, we will be working our album and single release campaign with Steph Knight at Domino PR and Emma Scott at Plugin Baby. Under their wing, we have already released two singles. 1 more single and promo video is due out before the album release. On March 24th 2018, we held our sold out album launch show at The Cluny, Newcastle, our album however, wont be available for public sale until 20th April 2018. We are currently planning a UK tour which will take place from the end of April to the back end of the year. There’ll be more singles and music videos throughout the year as well as we’re aiming to release a video for every song on the album.
PD. Have you received any feedback for the new album, what was it like?
E. We recently received a 7/10 for ‘EXIST’ from Powerplay Rock and Metal Magazine, which was an amazing feeling! We are also awaiting a few more album reviews from notable magazines.
PD. How can people get hold of the album?
E. The physical album will be available to purchase via our official website edenthorn.com and will also be available from the usual music platforms such as iTunes, Spotify, Amazon, Google Play etc. If you want a signed physical album, you can always come to our shows and get a copy from us!
PD. What are some of your pet peeves?
E. Lots of people say it, but mobile phones at gigs has to be the main one! Lets be honest, we’re all guilty of getting our phones out and taking a video or a photograph at a show and there is nothing wrong with that at all. It is the people that pay a lot of money for a ticket to a concert and literally just live record the WHOLE gig on Facebook or take pictures ALL night. It kinda takes the magic and mystery of concerts away, you don’t even have to go to a live gig now because you can watch the whole thing back on YouTube the next day… which is sad! If we all lived in the moment, we’d appreciate and enjoy things much more.
PD.What is your proudest moment in music?
E. Our proudest moment would have to be playing to 200 people at our sold out album launch show at The Cluny 2, Newcastle on March 24th. The audience were electric, the band were on fire and we received an awesome live review from Mick Burgess from Metal Express.
PD. Tell us about your next shows and why we should be there.
E. We haven’t announced our whole tour yet, so make sure you keep an eye out on our social pages and website to see the final list. Live shows are what we love best and what we work so hard on perfecting! If you were to come and see us live expect a raw, honest, never boring, fully live and tight rock show.
