Dreamlord – Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)

PD: What type of artist are you?

DR: Hello we are Dreamlord, a Greek Heavy/Thrash band. Our music follows the steps of bands like Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Testament and we are mainly inspired by the Bay Area of thrash.

PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.

DR: The band originally was created more or less around 20+ years. We have a lot of experience in our backs, mainly focused on the underground metal stage that lead to a promo at 2007. Bypassing professional and personal commitments (that lead to four years of inactivity), the band reunited at 2011 and finalized the line-up in 2013. With the latest line-up we signed a contract with No Remorse Records and our album “Disciples of War” reached the shelves in December 2019.

PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?

DR: Depending on the instrument of course each member has his own “heroes” (even from outside the metal zones), but as a band we are heavily influenced by the Bay Area of Thrash. Of course there are several situations that bands like Iron Maiden or Motorhead influenced our music and our perspective.

PD: What are your dreams and goals?

DR: The main goal of this band was always to have fun, create music and perform on stage and you can understand this since we are still on board even after so many years. What can I say? You cannot learn new tricks to an old dog!!! The ideal scenario is to continue on this path, having more people on board that like our music and if possible create more of it!!

PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?

DR: Concerning  the music, composing is a team effort, while the lyrics is a one man show more or less and it lays to our frontman.

This way of work gives different aspects to our music, since each member has different perspectives and may vary to the music tastes. The good part is that always one of the band mates will have an idea (either new song or a filler to the ongoing one).

As a band we are heavily influenced by the situation in our society, so our songs contained in the first album, mainly touch as a theme politics in any form and corruption of the political system.

PD: How do you promote your band and shows?

DR: Promotion these days is a big step for each band and several bands find this hard to follow or keep a track. In our situation the choice was a bit more simple, since we are under No remorse records. This means that a complete first album promotion was taken care of our company.

Though in these situations more is always better, we decided to also promote the band through an independent contributor. For this task we are collaborating with Angels PR. The company main expertise is the promotion, so we found in them the fifth member of the band.

Of course, nowadays with the amazing tools the internet provides, there is also a more direct way for the band itself to promote itself (facebook, instagram, youtube, spotify). It has never been easier for people to discover music, I think.

PD: What do you think about downloading music online?

DR: It depends on your perspective. If you are looking to  “cash out” through your music, then illegal downloading is something that you are against.

In our situation though the goal is complete different. We want more people to listen to our music and hopefully like it enough to come to our concerts. Downloading our music is a way for more people to discover our music, but hopefully, it will not stay at that. Hopefully, someone who downloads our album, will like it so much that maybe they will decide also, to buy the album, or come to a show, or buy merch, in order to support a band they enjoyed.

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

DR: Tricky question with many answers, but if I go with the first songs that came to my head I would say:

  1. Call of Ktulu (Metallica)-The atmosphere is fucking unbelievable
  2. Angel of Death (Slayer)-Full head banging song
  3. Holy wars (Megadeth)-Perfect live opener with tones of riffs
  4. Orgasmatron (Motorhead)-Because is Orgasmatron!!!

PD: What are some of your pet peeves?

DR: As a band and as individual persons we are worried and angry about the situation on the planet. War, Famine, Pestilence and Death!! The four horsemen of the apocalypse are really here and the only thing that we really care is consuming and watching TV!!! The situation is only getting worse with the second but we are sitting tight in our sofas at home, feeling safe and assured by politicians that everything goes as planned!! It seems that something went really wrong following the path of evolution. We need to wake up before it’s too late.

PD: What is your proudest moment in music?

DR: I’m guessing the simple one here would be to say some of the important concerts we did (like opening Annihilator) or the release of our first album, but I believe the proudest moment was something else….

During the promotion of our album several people around the globe provided their feedback. I think the most proud moment for me was when one of the reviewers send his evaluation (officially) but also send to us a video of him-listening to our music and head banging to the fullest while driving (don’t try this) and having as a title “Thank you for improving my road to work at least 10 times”!! We were so happy and proud that we managed to inspire someone in the other side of Europe so heavily!!

PD: So what are you working on at the moment?

DR: We are rehearsing for the upcoming shows we have and already started some new songs for the second album. Ok of course we know is too early, but since we have the ideas, why not??

PD: Tell us about your next shows and why we should be there.

DR: The most important show that we believe you shouldn’t miss is our album release party!! It will take place at Crow Live Stage in Athens, our hometown, on March 6th, and we will have with us our brothers in crime Memorain and Hailsteel. We can promise you an unforgettable night full with music and several surprises. Be there it will be a blast!!!
