Division By Chasm Interview
Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD. What type of artists are you?
DBC. Progressive Metal Musicians
PD. Tell us the brief history of the band.
DBC. Division By Chasm started in early 2016 as a few friends just jamming together. As time passed, we eventually decided the material we were writing was worthy of listeners and began networking in the Metal community.

PD. Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
DBC. Musically, a lot of bands. A group of our favorites are: Killswitch Engage, As I Lay Dying, Metallica, Rhandy Rhoads, Megadeth, Veil of Maya, Sylosis, etc.
Non-musically, the three F’s: family, friends, and fans. They all influence us in their special ways.
PD. What are your dreams and goals?
DBC. Our goal for the band is to mainly have fun. All of us, in the band, have had our fair share of trying to make it in the music industry and decided not to focus on making it big- but instead, just focus on the music and how it represents us as artists.
PD. Who writes your songs and what are they about?
DBC. Jonny, Wesley, and Dusty write all of the instrumental aspects of the material – even the drums and percussion. All vocals, and lyrics, are Cody’s department. Cody writes about politics, manipulation, serial killers, mother nature, and he is currently writing about other topics as we wrap up our next album.
PD. How do you promote your band and shows?
DBC. Right now, everything is done online through social networking, promotional websites, and music applications. Once we finish producing our next album, we will implement other promotional methods.
PD. What do you think about downloading music online?
DBC. Honestly, we think it is good…and minutely bad. Pros of downloading: uses less resources, immediate fan outreach, and rapid publicity (especially if the music is free).
Cons: copyright legalities, lack of funding for the band, and it kills band morale when people illegally download. Luckily for us, we are not in this for the money so the negative effects don’t really impact us.

PD. What’s your outlook on the record industry today?
DBC. We see the record (label) industry as a last resort. We have witnessed so many times how record labels have treated renown and influential bands with such disrespect – it has literally deterred us from the idea of going “Pro”. We would much rather produce ourselves and remain self-sufficient.
PD. What’s your claim to fame?
DBC. Fame is not desired in our group. We just hope that our music impacts the lives of our fans in a positive way. Anything more than that would be a blessing.
PD. What are some of your pet peeves?
DBC. A refrigerator with no beer in it…that’s about it.
PD. What are the biggest obstacles for artists?
DBC. Publicity and originality!!!
PD. Tell us about your next album and why we should check it out.
DBC. Our next album is going to comprise a wide spectrum of music. Hardcore (Punk/Post), Metal, Progressive, Classical Style instrumentals – all reinforced with aggressive, growling vocals. We definitely wanted to give our fans a diverse and well rounded album. Something they can listen to repeatedly without being mentally fatigued, or bored, at the end. This new album will be released towards the end of this year (2017).
