Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD: What type of artist are you?
DE: We are Diseased Earth, sludge metal band based out of the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia.
PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.
DE: We started in 2014, in the ashes of several local bands and we came together to play some heavy and uncompromising music.
PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
DE: We all have a wide range of influences from various sludge and death metal bands to punk to even classic rock.
PD: What are your dreams and goals?
DE: We just love playing music. There is nothing better than the energy of being in front of a live crowd.
PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?
DE: All our music is written within the group. Our Guitarist Paul and Bassit Joe are the main riff writers. Our drummer Clayton writes his own drum parts and our vocalist Travis writes all the lyrics. We will all make suggestions to each other as ideas for changes or how the riffs should be structured. Lyrically, all our songs range on a bunch of topics, such as political/social issues, Lovecratian mythology, and the human condition/emotions.
PD: How do you promote your band and shows?
DE: The majority of our promotion is done online, through facebook, instagram, and twitter. If we are playing in our local area, we will print flyers and hang them up.
PD: What do you think about downloading music online?
DE: Its a great way to find out about new bands, especially bands from far away. with fewer and fewer record stores out there now a days, there are many options left, so things going more online are inevitable
PD: What is the one thing you want people to take away from your music?
DE: The power of the riff. a good riff will get stuck in your head and find yourself humming it for weeks.
PD: How is your local scene?
DE: Virginia has a great music scene. There are so many amazing bands all across the state and some amazing venues as well. Bands such as Cut The Architects Hand, Vomit Stain, Alluvion, Gravity Kong, Earthling, Krode, Heemeyer, and so many more. Great venues such as Bricks in Staunton, Another Round in RVA, The Golden Pony in Harrisonburg, and more.
PD: What is your proudest moment in music?
DE: We have had a bunch of memorable moments in our musical career so far, from getting to open for Crowbar twice, to playing with Thou, to even getting to perform at Skatopia. The best moment though is when looking out at a crowd that is vibing and getting down to something you have written. That’s an extremely powerful moment.
PD: So what are you working on at the moment?
DE: Currently, we are just in writing mode, since shows are currently not happening. We just released a new single, “Coven of Leeches”, which is available online for purchase or streaming.
PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?
DE: We have a full length, split with our friends Cut The Architects Hand, several demos, and a couple singles. As just mentioned, we just released a new single and were making plans to record and release more singles this year.
