Release date: 31/03/23
Cardiff Jazz/hip-hop band, Dirty Alex, will be releasing their latest single, “Built to Last” on 31st March 2023. The single will be available for streaming and download on all major music platforms. “Built to Last” is an old school, bass driven hip-hop track, featuring the band’s signature horn section, tight grooves, and a great vocal chorus. It has hard hitting verses from the three Mcs DW Smith, Dick Dastardly and Oort Kuiper.
The song features a new Dirty Alex lineup including bass and guitar players, Clem Saynor and Kumar Chopra, sax player Josh Heaton and singer/rapper Annabelle Johnson “Lady AB”.
The track was mixed and mastered by the incredibly talented James Minas, who has worked with the likes of local musicians including Mace The Great, Luke RV. Drums were recorded by Elliot Bennet from SRC at EB studios, and vocals and instruments by DW Smith. Dirty Alex have been building a steady following live and online by playing headline shows across Wales, London & Bristol. They have also supported the likes of Arrested Development, Lazy Habits, Children of Zeus, Chali 2na & Krafty Kutz and The Mouse Outfit. They have also played several festivals including Boomtown, Nozstock, Greenman & Big Love to name just a few.
“A huge range of influences on that, mentioning Gil-Scott Heron, A Tribe Called Quest and the likes of Miles Davis – its just wonderfully rich stuff with great arrangement as well” – Adam walton BBC Radio Wales
