Desoluna – Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com) and

Patrick Shadowland (lead gtr, backing vocs)

PD: What type of artist are you?

PS: We are a gothic doom metal band from Malmö, Sweden.

PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.

PS: Desoluna started as a solo project by me (Patrick Shadowland) here in Malmö and Nadia  Montes joined on lead vocals in 2013. We played with several different line-ups, making us a band, before we found the last and longest lasting line-up  with Olle Andreasson on drums and Michael Levin on bass. Unfortunately Michael moved to Spain and since then we are on hold. We have recorded the demo “The Desolate Years” with songs from my old band in 2013, the full-length album “Fortitude” in  2015 and have just released the new EP “Rejection of Rejoice” in 2019,  the first  recording to feature all members.

PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?

PS: We all have different influences. For me, Paradise Lost, My Dying Bride, old Metallica. I think we all like Sisters of Mercy, that played live here recently. For non-musical influences is much art, movies and architecture.

PD: What are your dreams and goals?

PS: To become a rock star! Just kidding, just to play music and to have as many as possible listening to it. Also to play new gigs in the future, although we are temporarily on  hold.

PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?

PS: Patrick  Shadowland have written the music and lyrics that we released on the albums so far, but Nadia has written lyrics  for some newer material that is not released yet.

PD: How do you promote your band and shows?

PS: When we have a show locally, we usually put up posters about it, and write about it on facebook, Reverbnation, Soundcloud, Bandcamp and so on  where you also can find our music. We are also on Spotify.

PD: What do you think about downloading music online?

PS: That is definitely okay, it makes people discover more music. And people, like me, who likes the physical (CD and vinyl format) will buy the album anyway. I think most artists that whine about downloading are the ones who already became rich on music.

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

PS: Forever Failure by Paradise Lost. It is a fantastic song, both lyrically, it has both heaviness and a very beautiful harmony. Or High Hopes with Pink Floyd. I like songs that is more than music, that takes you to a whole new world!

PD: What are some of your pet peeves? A personal annoyance?

PS: Well, people that go to concerts just to get drunk and don’t care about the music. People who never listen to  a whole album. And I hate  arrogant people, there are simply just too many of them!

PD: What is your proudest moment in music?

PS: To finally release our new EP, Rejection of Rejoice, that we have worked for a long time with, definitely makes me proud. Also, our gigs at Farozonen in Hässleholm and our last gig together with Lamashtu from Gothenburg at Rockstugan in Halmstad (2018), when we were the main band and a lot of people attended, bought lots of merch and showed much  interest in our music.

PD: So what are you working on at the moment?

PS: As I mentioned, our new EP Rejection of Rejoice has just been released. Right now we are not very active, but we are planning a small acoustic concert for friends. I am about to finish my second album by my solo project,  Shadowland.

PD: Tell us about your next shows and why we should be there.

PS: Unfortunately we don’t have any gigs  planned, except for an acoustic 2 song show for Nadias wedding in november. Olle will play the same night with his other band, Inställt.
