Decline The Fall – Interview

Interview with Fabio Negro (Bass) of Decline The Fall and Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)

PD: What type of artist are you?

FN: We are the artists who tell about the problems affecting the world and our society, but also fight and work hard to reach our goals and make our dreams come true.

PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.

FN: It all started around 6 years ago when John built up Decline The Fall but after rehearsing with several local people he ended up being the last remaining Decline The Fall member. It wasn’t long until he met  Kris, Nathan and Ehren as guitarists and drummer and later on Fabio joined the band as bass player. After recording 5 songs and performing a couple of local gigs, Nathan had to quit DTF cause of some working reasons and Matthew finally joined the band to complete the line-up. Decline the Fall were now ready to create new music, record their debut album and release their first video clips.

PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?

FN: We listen to really a lot of different bands and artists and all of us in Decline The Fall have different influences. We may relate our music to Bullet For My Valentine such as Gojira, Killswitch Engage, As I Lay Dying, or even some melodic death metal bands like In Flames, ecc. Regarding all our non-musical influences, well… we may call the environmental pollution, human suffering and everyday social problems the main topics to inspire our lyrics and make us try giving our contribution to make people more aware and change our society into a better one.

PD: What are your dreams and goals?

FN: We dream of becoming professional musicians and bring our music all over the globe, and hopefully make this world a better place through our music and Lyrics.

PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?

FN: We all write our songs. All of us come up with different riffs and ideas and work for hours to build them up together. Then John catches the right inspiration from the music and turn it into the most beautiful, most inspired lyrics. We don’t stop until every single note sounds perfect and all of us are happy and satisfied with the final product.

PD: How do you promote your band and shows?

FN: We mainly promote all of our shows and the band itself through social medias. We spend a lot of time searching for the best way to self-promote our music. That’s not always an easy task. It can take a lot of time and energy, but we always make sure we did all our best to promote and spread our music.

PD: What do you think about downloading music online?

FN: It is a good thing all in all, especially for a fast and easy way to spread your music around. The only thing is, downloading should be always on payment in order to support both local and famous bands. At the end of the day, you can’t expect your favourite bands and artists to release new albums and being broke at the same time!

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

FN: Well, the list is very long haha! We may list “Silvera” by Gojira as much as “The End of the Heartache” by KSE, or “Unbreakable” by Of Mice And Man as much as “Bottom Feeder” by Parkway Drive, just to give some examples. These songs sound great and catchy and all of us have some sweet memories related to them. Not to mention the fact that if we were the authors, we wouldn’t be here now! 😛

What are some of your pet peeves?

We may take a bit too long to write or complete some songs sometimes. That can result being quite annoying for us. But we understand there’s a reason behind it: we just want to make all our songs perfect in relation to our feelings and musical tastes and that’s not always easy. Indeed, the 5 of us may have different, unmatching ideas, so reaching a compromise to make all of us happy can take a longer amount of time. But that can be normal in a five-members band after all.

PD: What is your proudest moment in music?

FN: Our proudest moment in music is seeing and behold what we achieved after writing a new song, or making a new videoclip, or perform in front of a hyped crowd craving for our music! There’s no better achievement in this world for an artist to see how much people appreciate and are happy about your work. It means you did a good job! Not to mention the fact that making your audience happy it’s just one of the most exciting things ever!

PD: So what are you working on at the moment?

FN: We’re mixing and mastering our debut album, the job’s almost done. We’re surely going to release it later this year, we still need to set a specific date. We had our own releasing plan but the Covid pandemic messed up everything so we are revising all our plans for this year eventually. Also, we’re going to release another couple of videos in the upcoming months, so another hard work of promotion lies ahead. Basically, we never stop and above all we never give up!

PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?

FN: You can find our latest video clip “Nemesis” on our Youtube channel along with our older video clips “Composing Madness” and “Carnival World”. The audio tracks are available on Spotify and iTunes too.
