Dead Reynolds – Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (

PD: What type of artist are you?

DR: Alt Rock / Pop Punk – all your favourite rock bands rolled into 1!!

PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.

DR: The band were formed in Oct 2018. All of the band members were regulars on the Peterborough and Cambridge Rock music scene having been in bands before. Notably Ben – The First who released 2 albums “swimming with sharks” & “take courage” plus supported black Sabbath/Lower than Atlantis/Deaf Havana  and Dom/Luke Green – Phoenix Calling who released 2 albums “Our Lost hearts” & “Forget your Ghosts” and supported Young Guns/Brigade/The Vamps plus tours in Europe. Luke Green was in a punk band called Damage that supported UK Subs/Bad Manners and The Damned.

We tool the bold step of booking a 12 date UK tour to promote new material in Nov 2018, this took in local cities but also saw the band venturing further afield

We released a single “Pieces” in March 2019 which gained notable radio plays and was play listed on Kerrang! Radio, being pioneered by Johnny Doom. The video was shot underground in the caverns of a historic building In Lings Lynn and was featured on Scuzz Tv as well as a radio stations in USA/Australia and Europe. Pieces also made no 6 of the Radio Indie Alliance charts and was single of the week for BBC radio Cambridgeshire

Released a 5 track EP “Souls” in July recorded and produced by Jack Murphy at Crystal Sounds Studio. This collaboration sees the band explore different styles and bring in a more riff-based element to the music. Live shows are a massive part of the band’s DNA and already in 2019 Dead Reynolds have played main support to Deaf Havana at their sold-out homecoming show to 1000 people and Mallory Knox for their album launch show at Cambridge Junction.

Lines single released on 27/3 with full EP Frontier on 19/6

PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?

DR: Musical influences would include Van Halen, Fightstar, Manic Street Preachers, Fall out Boy, Feeder, A Day to remember. However we all have other influences. Callum loves wildlife and documentaries so David Attenborough is a huge influence. Dom loves films especially War and Gangster stuff so Jack Nicholson, Robert Deniro and Al Pacino are huge influences. Luke is just a mad drummer and mad on drumming so influences are Travis Barker from Blink, Thomas Lang – session drummer, Chad Smith – Chilis. But the biggest influence on Luke is his Grandad George who taught everything he needed to know. Luke and Ben are both guitar hero lovers so Eddie Van Halen, Jo Satriani, Steve Vai and Brain may would all be influences

PD: What are your dreams and goals?

DR: To write songs that people can remember the words to and hear them being whistled around! To play iconic venues around the world. To be happy and healthy and go out with a bang!

PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?

DR: Generally Dom however we all play a part in the process as the songs evolve and change. All the songs are about something, feelings, experiences, self-belief, hope and anxiety. Real life stuff

PD: How do you promote your band and shows?

DR: Social Media now plays a massive part. We have a management team that also is crucial to us.

PD: What do you think about downloading music online?

DR: It’s the modern world, it’s how things are now. Do we like it? Probably not as we all grew up on a diet of racing to the record store on a Saturday to buy the latest single or album, looking at the artwork and sleeve notes and then playing it to death before the next release came out. It’s different now and music is bought differently so we have to embrace it.

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

DR: Van Halen – Jump – no need to explain why, self-explanatory!

PD: What are some of your pet peeves?

DR: Moaning people. People that are selfish and have a talent and cant be bothered to use it!

PD: What is your proudest moment in music?

DR: Ben got to open for Black Sabboth once – pretty proud. Luke got to play drums for The Stranglers!

Dom co-wrote a couple of big hit singles but we can’t say which ones!!!!

PD: So what are you working on at the moment?

DR: So we have another single out on 5/6 with a new video and then the EP on 19/6

PD: Tell us about your next shows and why we should be there.

DR: All of our shows to August have been cancelled due to the outbreak however one we really hope is still on is Hard rock Hell where we are playing with Skid Row Headlining!
