DarkFlow – Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)

PD:  How would you describe yourself or your band as an artist?

DF: Auto descriptions are a hard question, I think i would describe my band and me as an artist as the most realistic, theatrical and the saddest axt ever to exist. So, that’s what DarkFlow is.

PD: Can you tell us briefly about your background – i.e. where you’re from, how you came to make music, etc.

DF: Well I am from Chile I came to make music since I was young, and when I realised I wanted to do something more ambitious, it began, the true work of my music started and I created the character Sean Horror which I’ve been in 3 different projects. Now with DarkFlow in Switzerland we are finally making something that might bring us where we always wanted to be, in nice stages !

PD: Who and what inspires you to make music, both in terms of musical and other influences? What do you like to write about in your songs?

DF: Well, theatre is the thing that inspires me the most and in my songs i love speaking about real things I’ve lived and giving them and theatrical interpretation. Our upcoming album is about a huge neuronal disease I contracted, which explains a real story and everything I felt during the worst moments of the pathology. It’s truly insane.

PD: What are your aspirations as an artist?

DF: Grow bigger as a human and as an artist, try to create a good fan base so i can be playing everywhere, everytime and be happy until I lose the war against my sickness

PD: What is the proudest moment in your music career so far?

DF: When I had the greatest moment of my life: Working alongside my hero Andy LaRocque (King Diamond) for the upcoming DarkFlow Album.

PD: Promoting one’s music is such a challenge these days, especially with so many new artists emerging from bedrooms in the day of the home studio. How is that going?

DF: it’s extremely hard ! i don’t know what I am doing, but, I am doing my best into promoting our upcoming album. Hope this goes anywhere.

PD: And how do you book and promote your live shows and tours? Any performances coming up?

DF: I am doing the booking and the promotion of our live shows. it’s hard but it’s doable. We are playing in Switzerland, but we’re giving big concerts here. We hope we can take to the next level with an agent or a badass manager.

PD: What do you think about downloading music online? What about streaming sites like Spotify?

DF: They help to make your music available everywhere, but the problem is that many bands are drowned in the ocean of uncountless bands and music proposals. There are ups and downs with those streaming sites.

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

DF: I really think I wrote songs that touched me deeply in my soul. I am a proud (but not narcissist) artist and I think that some songs are so beautiful and majestic, but i love hearing them in the artists that genuinely wrote them. I prefer to leave what those artists did and do what I can give as an artist.

PD: Is there anything you don’t like about the music industry, which you would change if you could?

DF: There should be so many changes, and things are going south for us metal musicians. Truly, I don’t know what to answer. But there’s something that could change, if people will start hearing more new bands. That could help to create a huge new level for us “new bands”, and i think there are many great things you can find ! It’s a WIN WIN thing !

PD: So, what are you working on at the moment?

DF: Releasing the new DarkFlow album, Insane Circus

PD: Where can we learn more about you and buy your music/merch online?
