Dark Serenity – Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)

PD: What type of artist are you?

DS: Dark serenity is a modern rock band with vintage influences.

PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?

DS: Dark Serenity is influenced largely by the most prolific rock bands, such as Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, the Who, (etc) as well as the Foo Fighters and Rival sons.

Non musical influences consist of any successful/determined entrepreneur; basically anyone who carves their own legacy.

PD: What are your dreams and goals?

DS: The band’s goals are to resurrect the rock community and continue to fill stages and venues throughout the country, while continually releasing albums and singles.

PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?

DS: We write all of our songs collectively; no two songs are the same. Every song that we write is unique musically and lyrically. We do try and avoid songs about trivial things, and try and make our messages more big-picture.

PD: How do you promote your band and shows?

DS: We promote our band through all social media platforms. You can find us on Instagram, Facebook, and our official website.

PD: What do you think about downloading music online?

DS: Streaming services are a wonderful thing for consumers, but not for the creators. There truly isn’t much money to be made in streaming and for that reason it can be more difficult for musicians to profit off of their work nowadays.

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

DS: Free Bird! It is very hard to write a song that builds on itself and just gets better and stronger with every phrase, nonetheless with so few notes.

PD: What are some of your pet peeves?

DS: Bad sound guys and warm beer.

PD: What is your proudest moment in music?

DS: Our proudest moment was when we played a show in Wichita at Kirby’s Beer Store, upon finishing our set the venue had us sign a cymbal and it was nailed to the wall right beside a cymbal signed by Black Flag. Kate was also gifted a guitar that night by a fan that said she was worthy of having the instrument.

PD: So what are you working on at the moment?

DS: Dark Serenity is currently looking forward to recording in the coming months. We have multiple projects that will be released in 2020.

PD: Tell us about your next shows and why we should be there.

DS: Our upcoming shows are going to be Michigan and midwest shows. Our very next show is actually this Saturday the 19th in Ypsilanti, Michigan. You should be there because it will remind you that Rock ‘n’ roll is still alive and well.
