DARK MATTER

“The Children of Tomorrow” Official Lyric Video

Snowflakes is a song written by Jack our singer on a bass guitar long since abandoned at his father’s studio. It is a song about millennial “Snowflakes” andis meant as an anthem for those who have been marginalised because of their age, not because they are entitled but because they have inherited a world of unstable climate, unequal opportunity, and stubborn bigotry. Far from an attack on older generations the song is a statement of pride in our beliefs. “Snowflakes” features the widest range of influences with the abrasive staccato vocals and tongue-in-cheek, political lyrics inspired heavily by System of a Down. The slower middle section features Radiohead’s Paranoid Android as its biggest influence in contrast to the heavier sections inspired by the likes of Metallica and Megadeth. The song is our attempt at squeezing together these contrasting influences and has resulted in one of our most popular songs!

Band Bio

Dark Matter formed at university in 2018 and quickly began work on original material, initially working on ideas singer Jack had been sitting on waiting for the right project. They would describe themselves as a gateway metal band, hoping to bridge the gap between hardrock and heavy metal, making songs and performances accessible to those who may not typically befans of the genre, this has been exemplified by many fans who have said “I wouldn’t normally enjoy metal, but I loved that!”.A Successful first year involved supporting the likes of Witch Tripper at local gigs and winning a local battle of the bands. Fast forward a year and with new drummer Ben in addition to original guitarist Ed and bassist James, Dark Matter retained their Battle of the Bands title in front of many fans from the previous year. Their second year also included support slots for the likes of Stop Stop and Vodunas well as the recording and release of their debut EP “Don’t Panic”. The EP was well received by fans and helped to increase their following leading to the bands first gigs outside of Nottingham. On The back of their debut release they entered the Nottingham heats of the M2TM competition to play at Bloodstock Festival coming second and given the wildcard for being the most popular runner-up across all heats, giving them a place in the semi-finals, sadly, the COVID-19 pandemic hit and the competition was cancelled. Press for their debut effort was highly positive praising the production quality and comparing the band to classic metal bands such as Metallica and Black Sabbath. Many Reviews of the record referenced the memorable riffs, technical guitar-work, diverse and relentless vocals and the diversity of styles within the Rock/Metal genre.Dark Matter are currently writing music with intention of recording their first album in 2021 as well as preparing for the release of their follow up single “Panic” out in Autumn 2020 which was initially given out as a bonus track with physical copies of their EP and has received lots of praise from fans already.
