Damned To Downfall – New Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)

PD:  How would you describe yourself or your band as an artist?

DTD: In Damned to Downfall we aim to combine black/death metal with industrial/electro to create a unique sound that pushes the boundaries of extreme and industrial metal.

PD: Can you tell us briefly about your background – i.e. where you’re from, how you came to make music, etc.

DTD: We are located in the south of Sweden and started playing in our teens in various punk, metal and industrial bands and then after a long break from the scene we started creating music again around 2017. Besides Damned to Downfall two of us are also playing in World in Ruins (Crustpunk) and Sickrecy (Grindcore).

PD: Who and what inspires you to make music, both in terms of musical and other influences? What do you like to write about in your songs?

DTD: We take inspirations from all the genres we mix which could be anything from a riff, beat, sound, production technique or just the vibe of a song that we then try to bring into a Damned to Downfall context. Our lyrical themes are typically about how we are pushing mankind to its own extinction.

PD: What are your aspirations as an artist?

DTD: To develop as musicians and producers and bring something new to the industrial metal scene.

PD: What is the proudest moment in your music career so far?

DTD: I’m really proud of the new EP which we put enormous effort into but when it comes to feedback I would say when we learned that Jurgen of Die Krupps really liked our cover of Rings of Steel.

PD: Promoting one’s music is such a challenge these days, especially with so many new artists emerging from bedrooms in the day of the home studio. How is that going?

DTD: We are again teaming up with MDPR and are also doing a fair bit of promotion ourselves, so far things have been moving quite well but of course we hope to take things to a new level with the new EP.

PD: And how do you book and promote your live shows and tours? Any performances coming up?

DTD: We are still in the process of establishing a live band although we have had some rehearsals as a 3 piece

PD: What do you think about downloading music online? What about streaming sites like Spotify?

DTD: It has its pros and cons as it allows us to reach out to a wide audience more easily but on the other hand it hits on physical sales and the revenue/stream is a joke.

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

DTD: Wish by Nine Inch Nails, best song ever.

PD: Is there anything you don’t like about the music industry, which you would change if you could?

DTD: All these pay to play scams, record labels offering you a deal where you end up paying for everything, mags offering reviews against payments, fake promotion services and what not.

PD: So, what are you working on at the moment?

I DTD: ‘m currently editing the last video for the EP which we plan to premiere by the time the EP is released, besides that we are also recording some new tracks for our other band Sickrecy.

PD: Where can we learn more about you and buy your music/merch online?

DTD: Music and merch can be found at https://damnedtodownfall.bandcamp.com/
