CYCLOPEAN WALLS, album “Enter The Dreamlands” …(29 October 2021, Steel Gallery Records)

Cyclopean Walls are stone-works crafted in Ancient Greece, basically in Mycenae, Peloponnese, but also in Tiryns, Crete and other Greek territories. They were made from huge boulders put one next to the other kept together pretty much only from gravity. The mythological giant creatures called Cyclopes, which can be found in both Ancient Greek and later in Ancient Roman (Italian) mythology were said to be the only creatures that could possibly move these stones and place them up to build these walls, thus the walls were called Cyclopean Walls! There is a variety in Cyclopean Walls architecture and this type of masonry was basically used for fortification reasons.

The band Cyclopean Walls is an international project. They are based in France, but the mastermind of the band Yiannis Tziallas is of Greek origin and the vocalist Raphael Gazal is coming from the Colorado based progsters Leviathan! Enter the Dreamlands is the band’s first full length album. Enhanced by 2 great session drummers, female vocals, a small classical music ensemble and saxophone, Cyclopean Walls recorded an extremely good album that balances right between the European and the American Progressive Metal.

The band’s concept is the Lovecraft Mythos, which suits absolutely fine the mood of the album gothic and dark, poetic and lyrical as it is. The guitars are heavy and technical with very nice licks and hooks. In some riffs you will hear the band’s doom metal influences (Candlemass). The lead guitars are also truly remarkable and portray what a great guitar player Yiannis Tziallas is.

Enter the Dreamlands combines Progressive Metal with Classical and Soundtrack Music. The band’s heavy themes along with dreamy soundscapes make up quite an excellent combination that really suits the own style Cyclopean Walls have formed. The album has been sculptured in every detail, even the slightest, and is guaranteed to satisfy heavy, doom, progressive, and even gothic metal fans.

Cyclopean Walls have released a magnificent debut album where Heavy Metal, Progressive Metal, Gothic Metal and Doom Metal, all find their right place under the guidance of Yiannis Tziallas. Enter the Dreamlands is a very promising debut that makes me sure this band has a very bright future ahead.
