Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD: What type of artist are you?
C4: Hello Pete! We are Cyanide 4, a Hard Rock/Glam Metal band, based in Athens, Greece.
PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.
C4: Cyanide 4 is a Hard Rock/Glam Metal band formed in Athens, Greece back in 2008 mixing their influences varying from the Los Angeles’ 80s glam era to recent days, the revival era of the New wave of Sleaze/Glam Metal. Through the years, the band has released 3 studio albums, “Everyday is a Masquerade”, “Nekyia” and the latest “Amalgama”, all by Perris Records (USA) and has also made numerous live appearances, both as headliner as well as by the side of acclaimed artists/bands like Scorpions, Bonfire, W.A.S.P., Lizzy Borden, Crashdiet, Over The Rainbow, Ten, etc.
PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
C4: We could clearly say that band like Motley Crue, Ratt, Skid Row, Dokken, early-days Metallica as well as many of the New Wave of Sleaze/Glam Metal acts have played an important role on influencing our musical style. Regarding the non-musical stuff, my personal opinion is family…
PD: What are your dreams and goals?
C4: Our goal is to embark on a European Tour promoting our recent album and then record our 4th one…And our dream would be to be on tour on the side of Motley Crue, haha!
PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?
C4: Most of the songs on our recent album were composed and arranged by our guitarists. The songs are about personal experiences, feelings, having fun the 80s’ way…There’s actually no exact pattern, but a variety of themes that could be ‘narrated’ through our songs, it’s not only the “sex, drugs, rock n roll” stuff!
PD: How do you promote your band and shows?
C4: Nowadays, facebook/Instagram and social media generally play an important role promotion-wise. So, we could not do otherwise, but to follow that ‘natural’ evolution…We have also started a collaboration with Angels’ PR Agency in Greece and we are looking forward to further success on that matter!
PD: What do you think about downloading music online?
C4: Pay-ware download or illegal? Haha! Well, I could understand if somebody told me that a CD that costs about 20e could be way out of his budget, especially for people in Greece and other countries, where the financial situation is not so good the recent years, but, in my opinion, if you in any way download music, taste it and then actually like, then I find it’s out of the question, that you should buy the album…By buying music you are actually helping the artist/band live its dreams and probably support the production of the next album or generally the next step in its career. It’s quite an issue how the industry nowadays works and it would be really nice if all sides, fans/labels/managers/bands, etc., were satisfied, but…
PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?
C4: We wish we’d have written our next major hit, hahaha! We love e.g. Motley for having composed “Dr. Feelgood”, but that’s why WE love THEM, you know…The point is being you! So, we’d love to write Cyanide 4’s 1st Billboard hit, haha!
PD: What are some of your pet peeves?
C4: Drummer playing during the soundcheck/rehearsal, while the guitarists tune…That could be really annoying and we know somebody that does it regularly! ;P
PD: What is your proudest moment in music?
C4: Well, by choosing just a particular moment, that would be the support-act to Scorpions. Stadium show, bid production, epic! But generally, we are proud that we are still here, against all the obstacles that have been on our way, having released 3 studio albums and still loving what we are doing, as well as still dreaming about it!
PD: So what are you working on at the moment?
C4: We are about to release our 2nd videoclip off of “Amalgama”, for the song “So In Vain” while hoping to be able to announce a first run of shows in support of the new album soon. We are also sorting out some ‘raw’ stuff in preparations of the preproduction of our 4th album, but that’s just a small tease…it’s going to take a little longer before we could actually share news about that!
PD: Tell us about your next shows and why we should be there.
C4: Well, after an almost 2-years-and-more of Covid period, including lockdowns and so much misery…THERE ABSOLUTELY NO OTHER REASON THAN THAT!!! Get your @asses off and ROCK ON, hahaha!!!
We are really anxious about that, sharing our new music with all of you, sharing the energy and the rock ‘n’ roll spirit! See you all really soon, on a stage nearby, hopefully!
