Cult Burial – Interview

Cult Burial – Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)

PD: What type of artist are you?

CB: Cult Burial is a metal band.  It’s mostly death metal, with elements of black metal, doom and hardcore added.

PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.

CB: The project started in early 2020 when I accidentally bought a baritone guitar after a heavy night on the bourbon.  I decided to write some songs with it.  In March 2020, a debut 2-track EP called ‘Sorrow’ was released.  On November 6 2020 the debut self-titled album releases, featuring nine tracks of extreme heaviness.

PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?

CB: Musically, i’m more influenced by certain guitars than other bands.  Every time I pick up a new guitar I make 3 or 4 songs with it, and I’m far more influenced by that than any other bands.  So thanks to the Electrical Guitar Company, Ibanez, Gibson and Blackmachine for making inspiring guitars and basses.

PD: What are your dreams and goals?

CB: I long to make the perfect bolognese sauce.  I’m not there yet.  If a few people like the forthcoming album that would be great too.

PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?

CB: I write the music, Cesar writes the lyrics.  They are mostly following themes of hopelessness, death, a lack of purpose.  It’s very inward looking.

PD: How do you promote your band and shows?

CB: Cult Burial is working with Dewar PR to help promote the album release.  From my side, I just make the best music I can.

PD: What do you think about downloading music online?

CB: It’s here to stay and it’s been here a long time already.  It’s great though that’s been a resurgence in physical releases.  I miss going to the record shop, picking something random based on some notes on the record, or because I like the artwork, taking it home and playing it and  finding something unexpected.  I found so much great music that way, but probably wasted so much cash as well…..

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

CB: Thriller.  But I’d want to have made the dance and the video as well.  The full package.

PD: What are some of your pet peeves?

CB: Too many to mention,  I’m fussy.  Guitars that don’t stay in tune for long, that drives me fucking nuts.  That’s a clear winner.

PD: What is your proudest moment in music?

CB:When I could play my first power chord.  Took me ages.

PD: So what are you working on at the moment?

CB: Promoting the new album is the main focus at the moment.  I’ve made a start on a new release (not sure if it’s a second album or an EP yet) and am working on that too.  It’s going to be brutal.

PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?

CB: The album is available for pre-release purchase at Bandcamp, you can find it here:  https://cultburial.bandcamp.com/album/cult-burial

Other than that there’s our website (www.cultburial.com)  and the usual social media (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter).
