Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD: What type of band are you?
C: We have been given the title of rowdy acoustic pop. This is due to our high energy and our fun relatable sound.
PD: Tell us a brief history of the band
C: We started out as friends meeting in different stages of life. We’ve all been in and out of other bands, so playing music has always been our biggest aspiration. We liked that each one of us only had one plan in life. That plan was to create and perform music. With each of us also coming from different creative and business backgrounds, we have been able to create a successful fully independent band, with a unique sound.
PD: Who are your musical and non musical influences?
C: Having six people in the band we all have different musical influences with bands and artists like Dominic Howard of Muse, Keith Murray of We are Scientists, and Brian Sella from The Front Bottoms. For our nonmusical influences definitely our moms.
PD: What are your dreams and goals?
C: First and foremost we want to be an influence to everybody who just started or is wanting to start a band. As a band we also want tour the world on top of being one of the biggest bands of our genere. As well as people who don’t listen to the genre know who we are.
PD: How did you write your songs for the new record, and what are they about?
C: Our new record “Looking Forward to Looking Back” is much more personal than any work we have previously done. These songs were written about some of the highest and lowest points of our lives. We really connected with our fans during the writing of this as well to help capture how they are feeling. Often times a song will be started by one member of the band who shows up to the studio with a vocal line, or a musical pattern. But the doesn’t fully take form until each one of us have put our part into it. Every song was written by the whole band. That brings added care and stress to each song because we all love the songs so much and we want them to be the very best that they can be.
PD: How do you promote your band and shows?
C: There are a lot of creative ways that we see bands and artists promoting themselves these days. Aside from YouTube and Spotify playlists, we focus a lot on our social media and personally delivering tickets to shows (if we are able). With our social media we love to share videos from each night that we play. It is a great way for our fans to watch themselves rock out in the crowd and share it with their friends! It is also great for our fans who may have missed a show. They still get a taste of the live performance and then will usually come to the next one!
PD: What do you think about downloading music online?
C: We used to be a huge fan of it! If we liked a song that we discovered, we would immediately get on itunes and buy the whole record. Today it is all about streaming. That isn’t a bad thing. It is definitely different, but it creates new opportunity that downloading couldn’t. So far streaming has been very kind to us, so we are grateful for it. Plus it is an excellent way to discover new music!
PD: What song do you wished you written and why?
C: Probably the Drake and Josh theme song. They just hit that nail on the head with that one perfectly.
PD: What are some of your pet peeves?
C: When someone feels the need to honk their horn 1 second after a light turns green. Patience is a great thing that we all need to learn. In other words I’ll stop honking 1 second after a light turns green…
PD: What is your proudest moment in music?
C: Finishing this second album would definitely be our proudest achievement in music. It was hard not to get emotional after hearing our finished recorded songs for the first time.
PD: So tell us about the new record.
C: “Looking Forward to Looking Back” will be available everywhere Septermber 29th 2018! This is our second full length record and we wanted to create an album that reflects the energy and emotion we put into our performances. Instrumentally and lyrically this album pushed us to our limits. The record sounds huge and we can’t for you to hear it.
PD: Tell us about your next shows and why we should be there.
C: We will be touring all through October with the upcoming record release! Live music is still one of the greatest ways to spend your evenings and we want to show you why! You can check out our tour dates on cindersmusic.com and get your tickets now.
