Christopher Taylor – Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (

PD: What type of artist are you?

CT: Hi I’m a singer songwriter, I guess you might class my music as adult contemporary pop. But there’s some jazz and folk influences in there  too. I would hope any new listener would think Christopher Taylor is a songwriter who writes lyrical, catchy tunes with infectious melodies, and come back for more!

PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.

CT: I’ve been playing for many years. In my 20s I was working as a professional musician. For a number of reasons I then needed to  work in the corporate world, and did some ‘proper jobs’ but 10 years ago got the chance to work as a professional musician again (I was made redundant) and thought hey lets try and be a full time musician again – I’ve a very supportive partner.

So I’ve been an event musician and at the same time written and produced my own music since then – lately concentrating more on my own music.

PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?

CT: As a teenager I was in to bands as diverse as Alice Cooper to Fleetwood Mac. I love all types of music and I guess my diverse tastes feed in to my writing today. Non musical I admire people who strive to be the best they can be in whatever their walk of life. Seize the day.

PD: What are your dreams and goals?

CT: I’m a mature artist so one could say my dreams might be different to a band in their 20s but I bet they’re not far off the same!! I want as many people as possible to have access to my music. I’d really like to break in to the mainstream music pipeline and get played on national radio and TV. However I feel really humbled that in the age of the internet my music is played on all sorts of digital and fm radio stations across the world, and if you’d offered that to me in my teens I would have snapped your hand off!

PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?

CT: I write a lot of songs on my own but also like to work in collaboration with others, especially with lyrics. In particular I have recently got back together writing with an old school friend (we were actually in a band together all those years ago) and we are writing quite a few now including the new single North Star. My songs are about all sorts but I would imagines 90% are about relationships – both happy and sad!!

PD: How do you promote your band and shows?

CT: I try to get coverage in local media and of course use social media as much as I can.  Word of mouth is still really important so if possible I try to use any type of media I can to promote my tunes.

PD: What do you think about downloading music online?

CT: I think, if we ignore the financial constraints, it can’t be anything but good for artists who want to get heard. There are some huge challenges though in terms of ensuring new bands and arguably established  bands get a better deal when it comes to a return on their songs. Must admit not sure what the answer is, lets chew the cud about it over a beer!!

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

CT: You get what you give – The New Radicals – it’s just my favourite song of all time, great words, fab vibe and overall a superb pop anthem.

PD: What are some of your pet peeves?

CT: Rude people!! Is that enough??

PD: What is your proudest moment in music?

CT: Having the privilege to be able to play gigs of my own music and getting paid.

PD: So what are you working on at the moment?

CT: Just recorded 3 tunes with my friends at the Animal Farm studios. Really enjoying working with Ville and Mat there. We are One was out last November. North Star is out now – just released 26 March and then By my side is out in June. Then back to their studio for more shenanigans in the summer.

PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?

CT: All my music of the past few years is available on all the usual platforms. I good place to start is my website where you can chose your preferred platform to get access to them.
