Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD: How would you describe yourself or your band as an artist?
Answer: Dedicated, hard working and trying to continually evolve and improve, and expand.
PD: Can you tell us briefly about your background – i.e. where you’re from, how you came to make music, etc.
Answer: From small town area’s in MN. We loved music and discovered heavy metal after hearing classic rock from our parents and realized it was a big driving force in life and a way to vent/express ourselves.
PD: Who and what inspires you to make music, both in terms of musical and other influences? What do you like to write about in your songs?
Answer: Band’s like Metallica and Black Sabbath were the biggest inspirations. Then after learning the instruments and skills to write. Life environments, current events and just day to day life, whether it’s good or bad experiences. Just make us make music. The lyrics can be interpreted in a number of ways currently (I’ve been told). Just life in general. Or any entertaining ideas.
PD: What are your aspirations as an artist?
Answer: To continue to make metal and make the next song better than the last. Or at least different in a fun/ awesome way.
PD: What is the proudest moment in your music career so far?
Answer: Writing the first song as a group and not wanting to throw the song away was a start hah. Then doing shows and getting out on the road touring and connecting with audiences around the U.S. Recording the new album was also a blast.
PD: Promoting one’s music is such a challenge these days, especially with so many new artists emerging from bedrooms in the day of the home studio. How is that going?
Answer: Pretty good. It’s a challenge, yes. We mostly just try and focus on music and let the live show speak for us.
PD: And how do you book and promote your live shows and tours? Any performances coming up?
Answer: We just contact promoters or people who know promotors and network. We have a number of out of state shows on fest’s and other shows, that are in process. Next show 12-9-22 Club Underground in Minneapolis. Then April 8th 2023 at the Red Carpet in St. Cloud, MN.
PD: What do you think about downloading music online? What about streaming sites like Spotify?
Answer: If it draws people to the band and gets us fans. That’s great but I personally like buying music.
PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?
Answer: I don’t. If I like a song then I love listening to it as a listener. Instead of scrutinizing it. Helps to be objective.
PD: Is there anything you don’t like about the music industry, which you would change if you could?
Answer: We’re not likely to complain hah.
PD: So, what are you working on at the moment?
Answer: Writing more music for the next album and booking shows/tours for 2023.
PD: Where can we learn more about you and buy your music/merch online?
