Blacklist 9 – Interview
Interview with Kyle Silva of Blacklist 9 and Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD: Who are you and what do you do in the band?
KS: My name is Kyle Silva and I play Rhythm/Lead guitar
PD: What type of artist are you?
KS: Besides playing Heavy Metal music, I am also trained in Classical and Flamenco.
PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.
KS: I started playing guitar when I was 4 years old. I am self taught when it comes to different techniques. I would read Guitar Magazines or watch videos online and mimic their techniques. I started taking lessons when I was 14 or 15 years old, which helped me progress as a guitarist. As a songwriter my dad (Lonnie/Drummer) helped when it came to making a structure of a song. He taught me about odd time signatures and how to play to them, as well as prog rock (ELP, Yes, Tool, king crimson, and genesis).
PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
KS: Musical influences: Bach, rodrigo and gabriela, Francisco Tarrega, Andrew York, Dave Matthews, Dimebag Darrell, Eddie Van Halen, Jimi Hendrix, Tony Iommi and countless others.
Non Musical Influences: Mike Tyson, Muhammad Ali, Triple G, Spider Man, Michael Jordan, Joe Rogan, Venom
PD: What are your dreams and goals?
KS: Own a one story house and have my Harley Breakout, small goals for now.
PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?
KS: Everyone in the band writes, we will take a listen and go from there. On Mentally Ill, Legally Sane, it’s about government greed, drug users, and PTSD.
PD: How do you promote your band and shows?
KS: We use our facebook and instagram majority of the time.
PD: What do you think about downloading music online?
KS: I think it’s a good thing, it gives artiest the opportunity to get their music out to more people. There’s countless new music out there and it’s all right there at your fingertips.
PD: What song do you wish you written and why?
KS: Pantera – I’m Broken: this song is perfect in everyway. It flows, it grooves, and every part in the song, from the drums, bass, guitar and vocals, fit so well. It’s like it was meant to be.
PD: What are some of your pet peeves?
KS: Clutter
PD: What is your proudest moment in music?
KS: Getting signed to Eclipse Records. All the hard work we put into prior to being signed, it felt amazing. It only makes us want to work harder and play harder.
PD: So what are you working on at the moment?
KS: We are currently working on getting our tour ready, which we will announce on our social medias.
PD: Tell us about your next shows and why we should be there.
KS: Our next show is in Lancaster, California at the Britisher. As our album has energy and power, but our live shows we bring 110% no matter the size of the venue.
