Black Lilium – Interview

Black Lilium – Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (

PD: What type of artist are you?

Maurice: Good question. Definitely the lazy type, haha. I tend to do everything last minute.

PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.

Maurice: I first discovered music for myself when I was 12. I can’t remember where I got it but I used to listen to Live In Texas from Linkin Park every day for weeks. Shortly after I started playing guitar. After various projects I joined Black Lilium. The rest is history.

PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?

Maurice: To name a few Michael and Christopher Amott and Ryan Knight. I also love Sylvain and David from Soilwork. As for non-musical I can’t think of any person specifically. I’d say it’s the people I surround myself as a whole that influence me.

PD: What are your dreams and goals?

Maurice: To live a life where I can be myself.

PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?

Maurice: Instrumental parts were written by Jan, Marcel and Sven (first BL Vocalist). Felix writes the vocals. They tackle themes that move him personally and things he finds interesting. I’d say social commentary plays a big part in it.

PD: How do you promote your band and shows?

Maurice: We have our own website and you can find us on common social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, etc. Our PR manager Markus Eck does an tremendous job also.

PD: What do you think about downloading music online?

Maurice: I think it’s a great alternative for people that don’t care if they get something physical or even get annoyed by CDs taking up space.

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

Maurice: There’s none. If I’d have written a song someone else wrote I’d have turned out different and as such wouldn’t be the same. There are specific feelings that define a piece of music and they’re individual for every artist.

PD: What are some of your pet peeves?

Maurice: Changing strings. It gets old really fast xD

PD: What is your proudest moment in music?

Maurice: It’s everytime I get to the next level by practicing.

PD: So what are you working on at the moment?

Maurice: We were working on getting ready for gigs when Corona hit Germany so as of right now we are just waiting for this whole thing to be over. Besides that a music video is in planing.

PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?

Maurice: You can buy our Album Dead Man’s Diary on Amazon. Just visit where you also can find links to Spotify and various other streaming platforms.
