BIRCHES

BIRCHES – ‘Be Unknown’

(Released November 18th 2022)

‘BIRCHES’ the Northern Irish indie/emo band from the Armagh and Tyrone counties, that rose from the ashes of previous band ‘We Are The Trees’ in the summer of 2018, quickly making a name for themselves around their home country with a smattering of well received singles. With the success of these singles the band have had the chance to get out of their hometown, and play shows across  the UK in the likes of Liverpool, Southampton and London.

Though no longer living in the same cities, or even countries, BIRCHES continue to make music, something which served the band well during the UK’s respective lockdowns. Indeed, where many bands struggled, BIRCHES thrived, recording and releasing their fittingly titled Bedroom Days EP, whilst honing their sound to become the emotionally charged experience it is today. Remaining 100% DIY Self-produced in the process, until now.

Recent demos ‘Always F**cked’ and ‘Otherguy’ show a maturing process at play, but it’s previous release ‘See Yourself Tomorrow’ that really shows just how far the band have come since those early pre-pandemic days. One whose sound has matured alongside its members and audience, who showed up in force to help gain the new track over 13,000 Spotify streams within the first 3 weeks of its release.

Now with their next major release on the horizon, ‘Be Unknown’ is a step up in recording and quality. All recorded at ‘Start Together Studios’ in Belfast Oh Yeah Centre, the track has the DIY sound from before, resembling Orla Gartland or early Foals, but with the polish of a Girl in Red or Phoebe Bridgers track. They are just echoing though, not once does ‘BE UNKNOWN’ feel derivative. Instead, BIRCHES have shown themselves to be an elegant and emotionally loaded outfit. Described by the band as being “…it feels like everything before was all a prequel and everything to come, is the being of chapter one of our story. ‘BE UNKNOWN’ story is of just getting up and doing it, wither that’s calling a loved one, starting a new project or even just getting out of bed in the morning. All those things can be tuff for someone and we hope this song can give the inspiration to do so.”.

With even more to come next year, there’s still shows in the pipeline, you can expect to see and hear more from them in the very near future, including the Deer’s Head in Belfast this December 8TH, 14TH of January at Finsbury Pub in January and so much more to come!
