Bather – Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (https://petesrocknewsandviews.com)

PD. What type of artist are you?

B: Bather is a Metal band from Columbus Ohio

PD. Tell us the brief history of yourself.

B: We are a continuation of a previous band. We ended that project and started a whole new band in a new artistic direction.

PD. Who are your musical and non-musical influences?

B: We all are very well rounded musicians so it’s hard to nail down a list of specific musical influences, so anything from Deftones to Cattle Decapitation. As far as non musical influences I’m not real sure. I’ve never thought of that actually.

PD. What are your dreams and goals?

B: The big dream is to make a living creating music. That’s the dream and the goal. As much as it seems like that is unattainable it isn’t. You just gotta keep pumping and creating art.

PD. Who writes your songs, what are they about?

B: As far as the writing of the music it’s a full band process. We are lucky enough to be able to get together very regularly and hammer it out together. Being able to share ideas between all 5 of us has been key to finding our sound. As far as lyrical content it’s mainly myself(Josh) who writes everything and if there are any changes or suggestions that come up when it’s time to finalize the song we figure it out then. The songs on the last record were all love songs. Literally every single one. I’m a sucker for that stuff. You would never know hearing it so you have to dive in to the lyrics to get the full vibe.

PD. How do you promote your band and shows?

B: We hit it hard online with promotion. Figuring out advertising on social media has helped us a ton. Back in the day it was all on the streets with physical flyers but those days are long gone. Either you adapt or die.

PD. What do you think about downloading music online?

B: I think it’s good. So many more people have had the opportunity to hear us with apps like Spotify and Apple Music. It’s so easy to be able to shoot someone a link or a download to listen to something. If they like it more than likely they will buy the physical copy especially if you have it on all formats.

PD. What’s your outlook on the record industry today?

B: I think it’s getting better. It was real rough there for a second but I think it’s starting to level back out. It was super flooded for the longest time and there was no money to be made or given. But I think people are wanting the real thing again so people are coming back out to shows and buying records and other merch. There’s still money to be made in extreme music.

PD. What song do you wish you’d written and why?

B: Drive by The Cars. That song breaks my heart every single time I hear it. THAT is a perfect song.

PD. What are some of your pet peeves?

B: Bad attitudes, ego’s, carelessness, selfishness. I can’t handle any of that stuff…. oh yeah, and trashcan ass guitar tone.

PD. What is your proudest moment in music?

B: Writing this last record of ours.

PD.  Tell us about your next shows and why we should be there

B: Our next show is at The Northside Yacht Club(8/16) in Cincinnati Ohio with Vatican,Transgression, Typecaste, Life’s Question, and Overstep. All incredible bands. And we have a November tour that will be announced shortly so make sure you check us out on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter for all those dates.
