PD: What type of artist are you?
BB: I am a Spanish rock singer. I write lyrics and compose with my band. Our sound is born from the roots of rock with the power of today’s metal
PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.
BB: I started singing and study music at the age of 15. I´ve been in different rock bands and orchestras for many years. But it was in 2015 when I started my own project Bárbara Black. In 2016 we released the EP “Spiritual Rock”, then in 2017 the album “Ad Libitum” and now in 2020 “Love, Death & Flies”.
PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
BB: My main musical influences are Alter Bridge, Black Stone Cherry, Halestorm, Shinedown, Sixx A.M., In this moment, Vixen, Mr Big, Doro Pesch and many more! Talking about non-musical influences I extract my inspiration from books (Poe, Bécquer), fashion designers (Palomo Spain), series or movies characters (Queen of the Damned, Interview with the Vampire, Jeepers Creepers, Game of Thrones), photographers (Nat Enémede, Javier Bragado), design illustrators (B. Lacombe), tattoo artists (Kat Von D, Monique Péres)or video games (Dark Country) and this is how I create the visual world that surrounds my musical project.
PD: What are your dreams and goals?
BB: My big dream is connect to people through my songs, being on stage for many years and to live from my music. It would be a dream to be in the Wacken Open Air Festival someday with my band and playing in Late Motiv by Andreu Buenafuente, a Spanish TV program we love so much.
PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?
BB: The five band members compose together, I usually compose the vocal line and lyrics. I like to write about my personal experiences, even paranormal experiences hahaha, about people´s stories, animal rights, feminism and any topic that can inspire me and touches my heart.
PD: How do you promote your band and shows?
BB: We are working with Angels PR Music promotions, we do interviews, banners, videos and we use Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Youtube…During the Covid lockdown we started a new promo tool, we recorded some Behing the song Youtube videos in our channel just to let people know much better our music and enjoy it even better.
PD: What do you think about downloading music online?
BB: I think it is a great tool to listen to music you don´t know, but once you have tested, if you are happy with the quality of the artist, everybody should buy the album, as a way of keeping music alive and giving support to musicians.
PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?
BB: Despacito (Luis Fonsi ) economical reasons hahha, just jokin´! I don´t know, many more…Daddy, Brother, Love, little boy (Mr Big), Rhythm from a red car (Hardline), Youth Gone Wild (SkidRow), Kickstart my heart (MotleyCrue)…they are great rock hits!
PD: What are some of your pet peeves?
BB: I love this question hahah, I have a terrible problem that annoys me: people whistling. I also hate people making noise while eating and chewing with their open mouths.
PD: What is your proudest moment in music?
BB: One of my happiest music moment was when my single “Shiva” was chosen in Toledo (Spain) by the AEV contest in order to be as a part of the Eurovision previous fases.
