Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD: What type of artist are you?
Tommy B: We are the type artists today’s kids parents would have gone to see in the 80s. We always like to give people a show as well as something to rock out to.
Lui: Rock n roll band! We like to have fun on stage and play some hard rock.
PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.
Chic: Bad Actress formed in 2017 with Lui, Tommy and myself. In 2018 Vinnie and Bobbin joined the band and we’ve stuck with that line-up since. The release of our debut EP – ‘LOW DOWN ‘N’ DIRTY’ was followed by a series of launch shows. We have now played over 70 live shows and have received amazing support online and at gigs.
Vinnie: We’ve all grown up in the north of Scotland and with a passion for hard rock and performing live. Each of us have or have had other music projects, either playing in other bands or solo stuff. Between us we have an amazing range of musical tastes and interests like, The Cure, John Lee Hooker, James Blunt, ZZ Top, ACDC and all the way to Deicide and Cannibal Corpse. Most of the glam stuff we wear on stage is picked up in charity shops.
PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
Lui: AC/DC, Motley Crue, Def Leppard, T. Rex, Alice Cooper, Whitesnake, poison, Airbourne.
Tommy B: Well just by looking at us you could probably guess that it’s all the old rock bands from the 80s and stuff. Although we all have very different musical tastes that a lot of people probably wouldn’t know. I like Hozier for example, what does that tell you!
PD: What are your dreams and goals?
Tommy B: Well my main goal really is to do this band full time and never have to go back to my day job. Pretty much every musician’s goal really!
Lui: Play gigs around the globe.
PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?
Tommy B: Road rage, Hell raising, drinking. I wrote the lyrics of “low down ‘n’ Dirty” about my time on universal credit. Me and my friend would always just buy crates of Budweiser and get smashed and listen to music. As good a song subject as any.
PD: How do you promote your band and shows?
Tommy B: well I personally think the easiest and best way is social media. Everything is just online now. Be that good or bad.
PD: What do you think about downloading music online?
Bobbin: I think its fine to download music online. As a customer of any kind it’s nice to try before you buy and with music, I find if I download or listen to a band or artist for free and I enjoy what I hear, I will be more prompted to fully investing in buying everything that artist or band has to offer. I’m quite old school n like the idea of having music I’ve paid for in a box in my room somewhere.
Chic: Downloading music online definitely has ups and downs. We make our music available on all major platforms but we always have CDs as well.
PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?
Tommy B: “Legs” by ZZ top. Ultimate sex song!
Bobbin: Pink Floyd – Echoes because its a masterpiece and if I had anything to do with that song I could die happy knowing that I was part of the most epic song ever.
PD: What are some of your pet peeves?
Tommy B: When bands take themselves too seriously and feel the need to talk down to others because they think they are god’s gift to music. That and guitars with more than 6 strings. Call me old fashion.
PD: What is your proudest moment in music?
Tommy B: probably the first battle of the bands we were in. Ended up winning and the crowd were unreal that night.
PD: So what are you working on at the moment?
Lui: The next gig!
Chic: We’ve been in the studio working on some fairly new stuff to be released in 2020. We’re also booking shows for next year and looking at places we haven’t played before.
Tommy B: We’ve actually just came back from our second visit at captain Toms recording studio in Aberdeen. We are in the process of getting the final mix for our upcoming single “High speed Heart-break”. That’s where we recorded our last ep “Low down ‘N’ Dirty” in 2018 that we released early 2019.
PD: Tell us about your next shows and why we should be there.
Lui: The Eagle in Forres on 21st Dec. Come and see us to have fun and watch a live band.
Tommy B: last gig of the year, in the home turf. I loved playing in the eagle during our EP release show. Forres people just know how to have fun. Going to be wild!
