ATTN Deficit Squirrel – Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)

PD: What type of artist are you?

ADS: ATTN Deficit Squirrel is considered Pop Punk or Power Pop

PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.

ADS: ATTN Deficit Squirrel started as an idea back in 2016 between a few friends who all had a love for 90’s & early-00’s Pop Punk. Over the next two years, the band wrote a 4-song EP and recorded it in 2018. As the band was getting ready to play their first show in the Summer of 2020, the Pandemic hit, and shows were shelved. Regardless, the band still wanted to get their out there, so their eponymous debut EP was released in May 2020. In 2021, the band played their first show and have been building a reputation for putting on fun, energetic shows ever since. They plan on releasing their next single in the summer of 2023 while they work on their next EP to release within the next year or two.

PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?

ADS:  Scott (Guitar): Billie Joe Armstrong & Neil Peart / Christopher Nolan & John McAfee

Jordon (Keyboard): Andrew McMahon & Chris Martin / Dwayne “The Rock” JOhnson

Jake (Drums): Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan & Mike Mangini / Steve Jobs & Elon Musk

Ryan (Bass): Flea & Ryan Martinie / Razor Ramon & Stan Smith (from American Dad!)

PD: What are your dreams and goals?

ADS:  To be the biggest Pop Punk band in the Cincinnati area and to break-even financially!

PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?

ADS: Scott & Jordon write lyrics individually or collaboratively while the rest of the band jams out the songs based off of a member’s idea

PD: How do you promote your band and shows?

ADS: Mainly through Social Media and Word-Of-Mouth / local radio as well (like Nudge at 102.7 WEBN)

PD: What do you think about downloading music online?

ADS: It works as a promotional tool and is more cost-effective than physical releases, but nothing beats opening a CD or Vinyl and listening to it for the first time while checking out the album artwork and reading the lyrics.

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

ADS: “Imagine” so we could copyright it and NEVER release it because it’s probably the most annoying song ever written and this would have stopped all of us from ever hearing it.

PD: What are some of your pet peeves?

ADS: People who watch concerts through their phone – no one cares about your grainy, shaky video with horrible sound on instagram

PD: What is your proudest moment in music?

ADS: Having strangers sing back our own songs to us

PD: So what are you working on at the moment?

ADS: We recorded a new single with Ben Hannah of The Organworks Recordings in Leeds, UK and will be filming a music video for it in the Spring – hoping for a Summer 2023 release

PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?

ADS: All major online Music Stores (Amazon Music & Apple Music) and Streaming Services (Spotify)!
