Atomic Kavemen – Interview

Atomic Kavemen – Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (

PD: What type of artist are you?

AK: We’re a prehistoric four piece rock and roll band.

PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.

AK: James (drums) and Morey (vox) played together 25 years ago.  This past July, Morey wonders whatever happened to James, and tracks him down on facebook.  James is already doing some recording with George (guitar) and Todd (bass) and decides to bring in Morey and call us a band.

PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?

AK: James likes AC/DC and arena rock in general.  George and Todd like a variety of hard rock and heavy metal.  Morey likes Mr. Bungle and The Jesus Lizard.

PD: What are your dreams and goals?

AK: Headlining to a full club would be pretty cool.  We’re past the phase of needing to ‘make it’, and really doing this for our own pleasure and pride.

PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?

AK: James writes most of the music, often in one inspired take.  Morey writes most of the lyrics and vocal melodies.  There is no deep meaning in the lyrics – they are more performance art than poetry.

PD: How do you promote your band and shows?

AK: Mostly through twitter and facebook.  If it’s local we’ll pepper some of the area bars with handbills.

PD: What do you think about downloading music online?

AK: Awesome. Streaming and download sites like Bandcamp are a great opportunity for unsigned bands.

PD: What’s your outlook on the record industry today?

AK: It hasn’t changed much. I’m glad we have alternatives today.

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

AK: Tough question. It would be different for each band member.  For Morey, it would probably be “To Walk the Night” by Samhain.

PD: What are some of your pet peeves?

AK: Bad manners!

PD: What is your proudest moment in music?

AK: An album sale.  A semi-engaged crowd at a show. Anytime someone professes they dig our music.

PD: Tell us about your next shows and why we should be there.

AK: We have a show booked with War Cloud in Reno, NV on March 7th, and will most likely play in Concord, CA on March 8th.  We are a better live band than we are on record, and we’ll give you everything we have.
