Asylus – Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (

PD: What type of artist are you?

Asylus: We are an Experimental Metalcore band. We fuse lots of different genres together such as; metal, dark pop, edm, hip hop, and r&b.

PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself

Asylus: Asylus formed in 2015 when Mel Torres (drummer) Nazareth Munoz (Vocalist) project “I Take This Oath” split ways! Since then Mel and Naz continued the path of Asylus interchanging members and consistently thinking of new ways to reinvent the sound of the project.

PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?

Asylus: It all stems from all kinds of different places each member kind of have their own music tastes! It ranges from Dave Grohl, Slipknot, XXXTENTACION, Tyler The Creator, The Black Dahlia Murderer, Issues etc.

PD: What are your dreams and goals?

Asylus: We all really just want too impact as many people as we can with our music. Short term goals is too play every state in US at least once that would be rad.

PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?

Asylus: Asylus from the start has always been a super collaborative project. So it’s a bit of everyone. As far as lyrics it mainly comes Naz and Davon Harper (keys, vocalist) guitar riffs usually come from Erick Pastrana (guitarist) and structure a bit of everything from Mel. Everyone has their say in everything tho so it’s always a bit of everyone involved!

PD: How do you promote your band and shows?

Asylus: Usually through online marketing. Mel has a really good grasp on how to keep the audience engaged with content. So we are either trying to make funny videos to keep people engaged, different music covers, and then just blasting it as much as we can through word of mouth and social media.

PD: What do you think about downloading music online?

Asylus: It’s amazing honestly. We think it’s awesome that someone from across the globe can hear and have our music at anytime! Really cool time we live in at the moment for sure.

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

Asylus: Davon would say “Wonderwall” by Oasis cause it’s a bop. But band wise it would have to be Mikasa by Viel of Maya that’s one the the band definitely all synonymously love for different reasons.

PD: What are some of your pet peeves?

Asylus: Not being able to write, create, or play music for silly reasons. It really is a release for all of us.

PD: What is your proudest moment in music?

Asylus: Definitely our last holiday show 2019! Chain reaction was packed out the energy was insane and the band overall felt it’s tightest. Definitely our proudest moment for sure.

PD: So what are you working on at the moment?

Asylus: We are working on releasing the next single very soon and trying to push out all the new music we’ve been working on. That and just trying to play a lot of shows throughout the year!

PD: Tell us about your next shows and why we should be there.

Asylus: We are playing The Bancroft in Spring Valley March 7th that’s gonna be a fun one. You should definitely come just too head the new music we’ve been working so hard on, but get prepared to hear a ton of different genres all at once. It’s always a fun time tho it’s definitely when the band are their most selves and that’s on stage
