Astro-Lloyd – Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (

PD: What type of artist are you?

AL: Alternative rockband from Malmoe, Sweden

PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.

AL: Astro-Lloyd started out in a cold garage in 2011, four guys who just wanted to make music together, all from different musical backgrounds. That’s what makes Astro-Lloyd, one can come in with an idea for a straight forward rock song and then we just might add a blastbeat, because why not? Never saying no to ideas, working around what everyone can bring. We released our first EP ‘Planet Unknown’ in 2014, first LP ‘Astro Life’ in 2017 and has just finished recording second album ‘Loud Noises’, which will be out early summer 2022.

PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?

AL: Musical influences are Foo Fighters, Biffy Clyro, Blink-182 and The Hives. Non-musical influences are The Harry Potter series which influences a lot of the lyrics in our songs, We are all fans of Star Wars and Nick Offerman, his view of how to approach all things in life.

PD: What are your dreams and goals?

AL: Dreams would be to be as big as possible. Goals at the moment is to just get out and play as many shows as possible, getting people to like and be inspired by our music.

PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?

AL: It usually starts with someone comes with an idea of half a song and we figure the rest of it out together. When writing lyrics it often starts with writing about something that goes on in our lives at the moment and if we get stuck, draw influence from pop culture, a lot of songs end up being about specific events or characters out of Harry Potter series or The Walking Dead.

PD: How do you promote your band and shows?

AL: We are mostly using social media, Facebook and Instagram, working on attracting followers to our Youtube channel as well, producing and filming music videos by ourselves.

PD: What do you think about downloading music online?

AL: Both good and bad. It´s quick and easy to find new music, that´s a big plus. But the more we do this we notice all the work behind and artists should get paid fairly for what they do. There´s almost no other job where you put this much work into it for free. Or even pays yourself to do it.

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

AL: I (Andreas Jabrell, vocals and guitar) wish I´d written The Pretender by Foo Fighters. It´s the perfect song, lots of buildup in the intro, slow and atmospheric and then it just kicks off, a lot of energy but at the same time a lot of feeling, not just banging away for the sake of it.

PD: What are some of your pet peeves?

AL: People who talks over you, don´t listen, it´s all about them. And hearing other people eat and chew.

PD: What is your proudest moment in music?

AL: Proudest moment as a band would be the release of our first album. Felt like we where doing it for real, putting on the release shows and everything around that.

PD: So what are you working on at the moment?

AL: Our second album ‘Loud Noises’ has just been sent for mix and master, a couple of singles and music videos will be out soon and we are trying to plan ahead for the fall and next year. Play as many shows as we can. Next one is the “Release party” we have planned in Malmoe, will be more of a preview party where we play all the new songs live.

PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?

AL: Two EP’s and one album + a couple of new singles can be found on Spotify

We have not yet set up a web shop so if you want a t-shirt or CD, just send us a message on Facebook or Instagram.
