Arctic Dreams – Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)

PD: What type of artist are you?

Alex_Y: “We are extreme metal band”

Sydius: “An eclectic freak”

PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.

Alex_Y: “Arctic Dreams is a Serbian-German sympho-industrial-black-death-metal band originally founded in 2009 year in St.Petersburg, Russia by Alexander Alex_Y Järvinen (vocal/guitars/music/lyric) and Igor Sydius Pokatilov (back-vocal/guitar) and based in Belgrade, Serbia.”

Sydius: “Before and alongside our common band history I’ve been playing some guitar, studying some guitar, dating several guitars and dreaming about some guitars”

PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?

Alex_Y: “In terms of music – it’s a wide range of styles from classical composers to aggressive electronic gothic. Basically it’s all styles of metal. If we’re talking about non-musical factors, it would be good books, movies, games, some world events, usually tragic”

Sydius: “Frank Zappa, I.S. Bach, Richard Feynman, some of my teachers”

Glam Dickens: “In this matter I cannot limit myself to music, movies or literature… It can be individuals, their stories, lives, or even just situations or events.”

PD: What are your dreams and goals?

Alex_Y: “We want to tour the world with a high-tech, large-scale show”

Sydius: “The first interstellar music tour”

Glam Dickens: “To have enough strenghth and abilities to go further, and dreams can change on this way.”

PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?

Alex_Y: “I do all the music and lyrics in our band. The themes of the compositions are quite diverse: from cosmic abstractions to quite mundane everyday ideas. I am also inspired by the plots of some movies, books and games.”

PD: How do you promote your band and shows?

Alex_Y: “We turn to specialists who are professionally engaged in the promotion of music in our style.”

Sydius: “Alex carries this responsibility and I hope somebody appears soon to take it from him and enable him to compose and practice”

PD: What do you think about downloading music online?

Alex_Y: “This is inevitability of digital progress. There’s nothing we can do about it. We are glad that people are returning to listening to music on physical media (tapes, CDs, vinyls)”

Sydius: “I hope it evolutes into something more fair: maybe using blockchain to identify all streams and minimise unnecessary fees. Though many fans understand the support artists need. And still people like to get physical copies and merch: some beautiful stuff you can keep, some memory from bands and gigs”

Glam Dickens: “Indeed, it is the easiest and fast way to get acquainted with the music of a band. Because, there is not always an opportunity to buy it due to this or that reason. Maybe, this was the main reason I am into music, because I could listen to various genres. If it was not, I could get carried away by something else.”

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

Alex_Y: “I think it will be Metallica’s Black Album”

Sydius: “Any piece of classical music that you study at college or conservatory – immortal masterpieces, you name it! If you want one, let it be Mozart’s Requiem. That’s above everything: create something that outstands you and everyone around you, all the politicians, all problems, lives, deaths, all that bothers you today.”

Glam Dickens: “I don’t know really. But I’m sincerely glad that some of the songs are written not by me!”

PD: What are some of your pet peeves?

Alex_Y: “For the last year, I have been annoyed by people with imperial tendencies who think that they are, for some reason, better than others.”

Sydius: “Lack of knowledge, talent, smartness, kindness, will. All the weaknesses holding you back”

Glam Dickens: “There are a lot, but I cannot figure out any right now. Oh, I know one, when beer is out but I was sure that there was one more bottle left!”

PD: What is your proudest moment in music?

Alex_Y: “We are proud to have created our own unique concept, style and sound”

Sydius: “Hitting the note. Maybe someday”

Glam Dickens: “I believe they are all ahead. But for now, I think, the very first time I got up on stage.”

PD: So what are you working on at the moment?

Alex_Y: “Right now, we’re working on our first official video and building a recording studio for the upcoming album.”

Sydius: “How many artists answered: “Writing this interview”? Am I in a good company?

PD: What music have you available online and where can we buy it from?

Alex_Y: “You can find, listen and buy our music on the our BandCamp page: https://arcticdreams.bandcamp.com/”
