Andrea Pizzo And The Purple Mice – Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (

PD: How would you describe yourself or your band as an artist?

AP&PM We are a group of great friends, a bit nerdy, who love music and art in all their shades.

PD: Can you tell us briefly about your background – i.e. where you’re from, how you came to make music, etc.

AP&PM We all come from Italy. Roberto and Riccardo are professionals in the music sector. I’ve been singing for a lifetime even though I’ve never made it a profession. Raffaella and Maria Elena, who are my wife and my daughter, take care of the figurative side of our projects, Raffaella is also a very talented lyricist.

PD: Who and what inspires you to make music, both in terms of musical and other influences? What do you like to write about in your songs?

AP&PM I’m a “70s-80s guy” (even if I’m a little younger), I’ve always loved concept albums and science fiction. The first album- Potatoes On Mars – was about the human adventure in space, the next one, which is now being written and recorded, will focus more on the changes affecting the human race. The musical inspirers are the great bands of the 70s-80s: Led Zeppelin, King Crimson, Queen, David Bowie, Elton John …

PD: What are your aspirations as an artist?

AP&PM My aspiration is let as many people listen to our songs as possible, leave some traces of me, of all of us.

PD: What is the proudest moment in your music career so far?

AP&PM There were two magic moments: when we released the album and when it surpassed one million plays on Spotify

PD: Promoting one’s music is such a challenge these days, especially with so many new artists emerging from bedrooms in the day of the home studio. How is that going?

AP&PM It is doing very well on Spotify, thanks largely to so many Playlist curators and excellent services like Daily Playlist and MySphera. I am a Playlist curator myself, I have a lot of fun discovering new talents.

PD: And how do you book and promote your live shows and tours? Any performances coming up?

AP&PM At the moment I am not promoting any live shows, because we are working in a new project. Anyway It is not easy to organize, since Roberto has played practically all the instruments by himself. However we do not exclude doing something in the near future, perhaps acoustically.

PD: What do you think about downloading music online? What about streaming sites like Spotify?

AP&PM I get along very well with streaming sites like Spotify, of course to earn something you have to do a lot of plays. In any case, I have a lot of fun promoting music on the internet using services such as Instagram, Spotify, Tik Tok or Youtube.

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

AP&PM There are a lot of wonderful songs that I wish I had written, absolute masterpieces like Bohemian Rhapsody or Stairway To Heaven or even More Than A Feeling. There are others that are hidden gems, Vancouver by Jeff Buckley or Through the Window by Chris Cornell come to my mind. They are all songs with magnificent melodies and magical lyrics.

PD: Is there anything you don’t like about the music industry, which you would change if you could?

AP&PM It would be a good thing if streaming services paid artists more.

PD: So, what are you working on at the moment?

AP&PM We are working on our second album. It will be – as I told you – another concept album.

PD: Where can we learn more about you and buy your music/merch online?

AP&PM We still have to get organized with merchandising, but we’re thinking about it. You can find everything about us on our site: or on my Instagram profile:
