Amy Mantis and the Space Between

Amy Mantis and the Space Between

Amy Mantis and the Space Between is a rock (and roll) band that falls in the gap of what came before and what has yet to come.

Based in Boston, Massachusetts, Amy and her band have been exploring and entertaining the greater New England area and beyond since 2016. With an emphasis on songcraft and performance, Space Between look to deliver articulate, compelling tunes with a tight, punchy groove

After enduring everything from a former lead singer quitting music following a performance at SXSW to a primary songwriter leaving the band, casual scene sexism, and a bassist who finished his audition by looking through her trash, Amy Mantis demonstrates on A Place to Land that she’s ready to take control of her musical destiny. “I decided that I couldn’t rely on anyone else,” she says of her band’s debut full-length album. “So I was going to do it myself,” The album reads like a release for the Boston-based singer songwriter.

It also serves as the perfect antidote for anyone missing live music. Featuring ten lean, muscular tracks that combine classic power-pop hooks with a punch of punk energy, A Place to Land encapsulates the cathartic live performances that have earned the trio the titles “the jam band for people who hate jam bands” and “the most exciting live rock act in Boston.”

Promotional tracks, including “Call It What You Want,” a classic rock barnburner, “If I Told You,” a mid-tempo slow-burn with a surprising post-rock inspired outro, and “God’s Gift to Man,” a fiery send-up of the archetypal narcissist, demonstrate the band’s immense range and power. Deeper cuts, like the dynamic “Worry Makes the Man” and jammy, confessional closer “A Distance” reveal Mantis to be a thoughtful, mature writer with massive musical acuity and a heart-on-her-sleeve approach that probes the perils of seeking wellness in an unwell world.

A Place to Land was recorded in the winter of 2019 by Sean McLaughlin at 37’ Productions and was mastered by Jeff Lipton and Maria Rice at Peerless Mastering. The album will be available on all major music marketplaces along with the band’s previously released EPs: 2019’s No Place To Land, 2018’s A Good Hurt, and 2017’s Where the Mountain Should Be.
