Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)
PD: How would you describe yourself or your band as an artist?
ATT: Align the Tide is a mix of 5 individuals with different backgrounds and music tastes finely blended in the music we love to create. Our music pulls its sound from a range of genres such as Nu-Metal, Deathcore, Metalcore and groove. It is hard to pinpoint a label for our sound but you definitely hear the influences.
PD: Can you tell us briefly about your background – i.e. where you’re from, how you came to make music, etc.
ATT: Align the Tide was formed back in 2015 having a target in mind of reaching certain goals, such as creating music we always desired releasing into songs and even albums in the future. All the members have a background in music since childhood and we still have the passion to continue spreading our music.
PD: Who and what inspires you to make music, both in terms of musical and other influences? What do you like to write about in your songs?
ATT: The thrill of playing live and feeling the energy of the audience is always enough to give the motivation we need to continue creating new music. Seeing other bands play live also inspires us. Our upcoming album, ‘Hollow’, delves into issues plaguing our society covering topics such as Mental Health. We have songs across the album covering different views in regards to this topic.
PD: What are your aspirations as an artist?
ATT: Our aspirations are that we play and participate in well known festivals, together with touring that covers more countries and even continents, reaching a wider audience. Coming from a small island in the middle of the Mediterranean, provides hindrance to our outreach which is a challenge we would like to overcome.
PD: What is the proudest moment in your music career so far?
ATT: Touring America west to east alongside Mushroomhead covering 15 states back in 2018 and headlining one of the biggest musical festivals in Malta, The Farsons Beer Festival 2022
PD: Promoting one’s music is such a challenge these days, especially with so many new artists emerging from bedrooms in the day of the home studio. How is that going?
ATT: It is quite challenging nowadays, however, we are doing our best spreading our music through relevant channels and platforms.
PD: And how do you book and promote your live shows and tours? Any performances coming up?
ATT: Through networking and our manager taking care of most of our shows booked. Yes actually, we have three shows coming up! We’ll be playing at the Rock the South Festival on the 10th of July, The Farsons Beer Festival on the 28th of July and we have our own launch party on the 26th of August for our upcoming album, ‘Hollow’.
PD: What do you think about downloading music online? What about streaming sites like Spotify?
ATT: Does it help with spreading music for underground bands such as us? Yes, it does, so we definitely support this, however, when it comes to making an income, it’s quite difficult supporting a band financially with a very low percentage on streams.
PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?
ATT: After the Burial – Collapse, just cause it’s badass
PD: Is there anything you don’t like about the music industry, which you would change if you could?
ATT: The over exploitation of artists and their work from which the industry tries to generate as much money as it can.
PD: So, what are you working on at the moment?
ATT: We’re working on our new album ‘Hollow’ while rehearsing for the coming shows, the album launch and promotion.
PD: Where can we learn more about you and buy your music/merch online?
ATT: One can either follow us on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter etc… Merch is also available on our official website www.alignthetide.com and bandcamp.
