7 Mazes – Interview

Interview with Pete Devine of Pete’s Rock News and Views (http://petesrocknewsandviews.com)

PD: What type of artist are you?

7M. Well, everyone inside of the band is totally different, but these differences make us unique. But to answer the question I would say, we are the type of band that strives for diversity and tries to reinvent itself with every new song/album. We are constantly moving forward and try to transform our experiences within this life into music. We are none of these typical rock-attitude-bands. We are way more a family/best friends having a great time together while writing, recording and playing music.

PD: Tell us the brief history of yourself.

7M. Well, the band-story begins shortly after the life of Max’s father suddenly ended. Max Roxton:“ This stroke of fate made me think about giving up music for a short time of my life, but fortunately I didn’t do that in the end. Instead, I wrote some songs to deal with my grief. These songs were the beginning of the band and you can hear them on the first Record. The first album I recorded alone with our former drummer „Daniel“. Shortly afterwards „Bo”; and „Davy” joined in. The current line-up of the band consists of me, „Max Roxton

(vocals / rhythm guitar), Bo Jahson (bass), Val Pine (drums) and Stef Rockfall (lead guitar / backing vocals)”.

PD: Who are your musical and non-musical influences?

7M. Tremonti, Foo Fighters, Bullet for my Valentine, Disturbed, As i lay Dying, All that Remains, Alter Bridge, Slash, Black Stone Cherry, Nickelback, Tool, Stone Sour, Slipknot, Killswitch Engage, Periphery, Architects, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Shinedown, Three Doors Down, Kansas, QUEEN, Muse, Twelve Foot Ninja, Halestorm, Creed, Nirvana, Linkin Park, Hans Zimmer, Dany Elfman, Metallica, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Sweet, Jamiroquai and many more

PD: What are your dreams and goals?

7M. A Dream would be to live in the golden age of ROCK. The goal is to bring back the golden age of ROCK.

PD: Who writes your songs, what are they about?

7M. Max writes the prototypes and basic structures. Afterwards the whole band works on the details of the Songs. Max Roxton: „ There is no general meaning within our songs. It always depends on how i feel within the moment of writing.

I am not sitting down and write about a specific topic. I am writing about what has to be told at this very moment, in my opinion.

PD: How do you promote your band and shows?

7M. Mostly Social Media and on gigs.

PD: What do you think about downloading music online?

7M. Well it is possible, that’s why people do it. There are a few people out there still buying hardcopies and vinyl. So, everybody can listen to music in their own kind of way.

PD: What song do you wish you’d written and why?

7M. Bohemian Rhapsody, simply because it is a MASTERPIECE!

PD: What are some of your pet peeves?

7M. Our drummer hates the taste of potatoes. Our Singer and our Lead-guitarist hate it, when a person next to them is chewing to loud.

PD: What is your proudest moment in music?

7M. Both Album-releases and the first time playing a show in the United States.

PD: So what are you working on at the moment?

7M. A new Single? A new Album? Nothing? Who knows? This will stay a well kept, for the moment.

PD: Tell us about your next shows and why we should be there.

7M. The next Show will be on March 27th at Libella / Altenmarkt. It will be one of a few shows with our friends from „The Sonic Brewery“ this year. You should come to our shows simply because the are a firework of Powerful Sound, Depth and Melody. If you have the chance to come you should not miss it.
